Are hypnosis and meditation the same states of consciousness? I am a meditator who has also tried hypnosis many times, usually with people who are both meditators and hypnotherapists. It's my experience that there are many states of consciousness, even outside of meditation and hypnosis. At best, as far as I ever experienced, the only altered state I experience with hypnosis is sleep. Meditation is another story. I've experienced everything from enlightenment to sleep. I've just been told that I don't like other people messing with my subconsicous. No conclusions, just observations.
