I use a "be in the present moment" Zen approach (absorb yourself in the visual/auditory/kinesthetic experience) along with a lot of self-comforting suggestions (feel the soft-smooth-effortless flow of the breath; the warmth of your hands against your belly; the way your belly rocks forward and back, effortlessly, gently . . ."). This combination of placing one's attention in comfort and one's focus on the sensation presenting itself works quite well with persons experiencing depersonalization/derealization.
