I am struggling with the fact that whenever I give feedback in class to a work my teacher does with a client/student, I am asked to share my awareness; that is what I felt and experienced during the work. How come ?
In the book "Gestalt therapy: Practice and theory" by M.P Korb & J. Gorrell & V.V.de Riet write in the chapter: The therapist as responder: " If we tend to advise or instruct, we will only apply our own answers and awareness to an other person's life and experience. Although our answers may be accurate, correct or beneficial in that they come out of true perception of some situation, they remain ultimately our answers. Each person has to be able to find answers that are personally true, if the nessessary transition from environmental support to self-support is to be made. Ultimately, the therapist is only a resource for the client, a person who may be able to help in the client's personal discovery of the way to awareness."
So I am wondering if there is an other way to give constructive feedback, especially when I give feedback to the teacher for her/his work ? In stead of this "when you did that I felt etc...." What is the gestalt opinion for giving feedback ? Is it only to share awareness or is it more ?
