I and the group I work with have been field testing (1997/98) some innovations to self-help step program approches when making use of gestalt therapy with addictions recovery populations. We find them to be more in line with gestalt practice and philosophy.
Our group has originated and made part of our Constitution the following:
Paradox Innovations (Inc.) Three Step Recovery Program (copyright 1998)
1. Aware of our powerlessness to deal with substance abuse in our lives, we admit our defeat and acknowledge that existing as we have in the past is not viable.
2. Within a fellowship of peers, we draw strength in our belief that a power greater than ourselves can restore us to meaningful lives.
3. Being now authentic and free we commit ourselves to live our lives in harmony with this power as we understand it.
I thought this post may bring closure to an old thread, and perhaps open some disscusion on a new one. As always, comments welcomed.
