    Flocking and C&W
    James Brody · 11/07/03 at 10:37 ET

Flocking shows up in a lot of places.

Several C&W tunes insert choruses from the audiences. "Playboys of the Southwestern World" (Blake Shelton) and "I Love this Bar" (Toby Keith). "American Pie" did the same thing and I always enjoyed the effect.

It's like being in church and hearing "A Mighty Fortress" echoing from the rafters...I wonder if starlings respond with one part of their mind to the songs of a single bird and a different part of their mind to a flock of them calling in unison? I bet they do. And I bet they prefer the latter to the former, particularly when hungry or after social isolation.
