As mentioned in a recent previous message, I had my first EMDR treatment on 12/4. The following Tuesday, I suddenly came down with a virulent sinus infection. This caused me to cancel my appointments for two subsequent EMDR sessions on 12/11 and 12/18 (as I am still slowly recovering from this). My therapist and I agreed that I should wait until I am in better physical condition before resuming the treatments after the first of the year. Since, as my therapist has mentioned, EMDR seems to be a way to help the body reprocess traumatic past events stored in "cellular memory", is it possible that my physical organism reacted to the initial stirring up caused by the EMDR by lowering my immunity to the sinus infection bacteria? This has been one of the worst physical illnesses I have ever had. It does not put me off wanting to continue the EMDR, but the question intrigues me, as I am very interested in psychoneuroimmunology and the body/mind/spirit connection. Any comments from Dr. Shapiro or others would be appreciated. Happy Holidays to all.
