CONTROL MASTERY THEORY CLASS AT THE CAPE! Joe Weiss and I invite you to join our class "How Psychotherapy Works". This week long class will be held July 5-11 at beautiful Cape Cod. You can get information on the Cape Cod Institute at: http://www.cape.org/ Our class will address questions such as: What are patient's goals in treatment? How do we know what a patient wants? What is curative about psychotherapy?
We have all learned many techniques but when do you use what? The answers are complex but as clinicians we need to have a framework from which to ask and answer these difficult questions. This class will offer you a chance to learn an innovative theory of the mind and psychotherapy developed over the last thirty years by Dr. Weiss. This theory offers concrete, practical help in understanding your clients.
We will focus on understanding what your patient is trying to accomplish in each hour and what interventions will be most likely to help your patient achieve his or her goals. We believe that patients enter treatment to get better and they work very hard to do so. It isn't always easy for us to know how to help them. Using Weiss's "Control Mastery Theory" can help you know how to help your patient. We will use you own case material to learn and practice these techniques. We will be joined by the Shilkrets who will lead a group for clinicians who have already had exposure and experience with this theory. You can also see this theory in practice at the case conference site. I would be happy to answer any questions about this class or the theory mastery theory through e-mail at broitman@behavior.net. We are looking forward to a lively, fun and useful week. See you at the cape!
