Great Topic!! Maybe we can start a grapevine about grapevines. I am particularly interested because in my diversity work in organizations, grapevines sometimes develop to produce a "safe" method of communication where there is reason to think that some oppression, meanness, or potential retaliation is likely to result from the use of more traditional forms. Information hoarding during times of stress by top management is also a major contributor. Grapevines are potential allies for those who like to live in an information rich environment. It would be great to facilitate research to find out underwhat conditions grapevines contribute to accurate communication of information and those conditions where they contribute to noise in the system. Thanks for getting this started and I hope that we will see contributions from widely diverse members of our website.
