I am looking for a research assistant to do structured interviewing by telephone for a treatment outcome pilot study of child trauma/loss patients. Most suitable would be an advanced college student or college graduate who is planning on graduate study in the field. Must have good communication skills w/ adults & children, be responsible/reliable, be able to follow requirements for confidentiality & other ethical concerns.
Will be interviewing 20 children & parents 4X over 6 months (study may take longer, until last participant has been followed for 6m), approximately 15 min/contact, total approx 20 contact hours. I offer telephone/on-line training/supervision, reimbursement of phone charges, and possible stipend (depending on funding).
This is planned as a pilot while applying for a substantial grant for a larger, similar project including more participants and a 1 yr follow-up. The research assistant would not be committed to the larger project but would certainly have the inside track if interested.
This study involves some methodological advances (partially in response to Consumer Reports study) to combine elements of experimental control with high ecological validity. Comparing eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) to other treatment for trauma & loss, as actually practiced in the field. There are is at present (in my opinion) only 1 good study of EMDR for children (several of interest but not as solid).
Principal investigator is leading authority on EMDR for children & adolescents, and developed/validated two child trauma measures (parent & child forms) that will be used in the study.
