Even Gould and Dawkins seem to agree that natural selection is not the only thing, when you consider the comets... I understand current theory accepts that the dinosaurs did not become extinct as a result of a failure of natural selection.

Mind you, I often thought that maybe ONE useful thing MIGHT just possibly come out of Edward Teller's wretched strategic defense initiative (which I refuse to capitalize), namely a possible defence against circulating comets.
