Vic welcome to the Forum! Your application of Control Mastery Theory to dreams and Freud's dreams in particular is fascinating. Thank you for posting it. I hope you will share more of your ideas. Where are you located? Are you doing dream research? or writing a book analyzing Freud's dreams? Your hypothesis concerning Freud's "testing" his relationship with Fleiss in order to master childhood trauma is original and thought provocating. Newton's new book on Freud and his political insecurities comes to mind. Please share more of your observations.
Weiss believes that dreams can be purposeful attempts to master problems. They carry great conviction and help one disconfirm pathogenic beliefs. He believes that you can often make coherent sense of the purpose of a dream. I am interested in the idea that you can see a testing progression in some one's dreams over time. Have you studied anyone person's dreams in this way? It sounds like what happens in therapy where the patient becomes bolder and freer to test harder as the therapist establishes a safe environment through passing tests.
