One of the sites that is part of the Residential Outcomes Study in Western Massachusetts serves mentally ill/substance abuse clients.
Question: what experiences have others had using the Addictions Severity Index (McLellan, Luborosky, Cacciola, and Fureman) as part of the assessement package for this sub-population? Do you have any comments about it with this population? I worked on the team of a large study with the VA West Haven where this scale was part of the assessment package (used both during treatment at for the follow-up assessments). But the population was substance abusing veterans, not dually diagnosed DMH clients. Apparently, the ASI is not recommended for severely mentally ill clients; but this is a subjective concept.
I would appreciate any thoughts or comments you have on this scale when used with this population. thanks
