I am working with a profoundly retarded woman who appears to be quite anxious on a frequent basis. Traditional behavioral interventions have been inconsistently applied (due to staff inconsistencies in the ICF-MR) in an effort to deal with some of the overt behaviors, and our psychiatrist has been working with her in terms of medications. She also has been diagnosed with PKU, and a PKU diet has been helpful. Although this is a very brief and sketchy synopsis, any ideas on how anxiety manifests itself in people with profound MR would be helpful, as this "seems" (I don't know very much about it) to be her biggest problem. Thanks!
