It is clear that CM therapists have an intuitive understanding of all of the psychological realities I have discussed and that they put this understanding into practice when they help clients. As far as therapy goes, therefore, it's really a matter of taste whether one uses developmental language or language that mixes developmental concepts with guilt-related ones.
My complaint ever and always is with the way CM therapists report on their interventions. My complaint is that this broad understanding that CM therapists have gets constricted by the apparent necessity to hold to some sort of "party line" in the language used. This results in the introduction of psychological inaccuracies and false categories of thought. My point is that inaccuracies and false categories of thought have no place in a scientific report. To see what I mean by inaccuracies and false categories of thought, all you have to do is compare my analysis with the published paper on Kathy's case. I'm not picking on Polly. My complaint is that such inaccuracies are typical, and would be unnecessary if the language CM therapists used accurately reflected their psychological understanding.
