I have treated several phobic patients over the past two decades, all with great success. It is a shame that they do not avail themselves of effective treatments. I believe that this is no different than any other phobic response, avoidance! Perhaps the only thing that seperates the dental phobic person from others is the lack of acceptance from the public at large. Fear of flying or heights is fine, but dentists?? You must be crazy! Education is one of the answers. Informing the general public, dentists and dental school students may help. It is ironic that, in my experience, dental phobias have been one of the most simpliest and easiest type of phobias to treat!
