    Learning from parents
    by Georg H. Eifert, Ph.D., 9/3/98

It is undoubtedly the case that we learn a lot of behaviors from our parents. Some of these behaviors are functional and help us greatly in dealing with challenges in our lives whereas others may not be adaptive or particularly helpful. If you feel that a particular behavior is causing you a lot of suffering and interferes significantly with your everyday functioning, then I suggest you seek help from a cognitive-behavior therapist. Unfortunately it is not possible to give specific useful advice on this forum concerning individual problems. There is also much relevant information at Mental Health Net at http://www.cmhc.com and elsewhere on the Net. Another resource may be the Mental Health Association in your community. Good luck!
