J. Kimbrough,
At Work and Family Resources Counseling in San Francisco, we have developed a model specifically for people who've been traumatized (usually through scapegoating) in the workplace. We have a high success rate with the model that is described in our book, Work Abuse: How to Recognize and Survive It, published by Schenkman Books...just out in paper or cloth...bookstores likely will not have it..but can be ordered through bookstores or by calling Schenkman at 802-767-3702...or fax..802-767-9528...e-mail Schenkman and they will send you a brochure: e-mail: schenkma@sover.net
Judy Wyatt and I will be presenting the PTSD treatment model for healing work traumas at the annual CAMFT conference on May 2.
E-mail us if you would like thoughts on how to approach PTSD from other sources---we have a strong belief that you have to be thoroughly familiar with each PTSD source in order to be truly effective. We may be able to give you ideas on how to develop a model for other PTSD sources that works specifically for you and your clients...The big no-no is to subtly blame the client---which is what happens when therapists focus too much on childhood too early...you have to focus on emotional release and cause-effect review of the actual incident in order to assist integration. If you don't know much about the PTSD source, you are handicapped in the c-e review (the client may feel shamed/blamed even having to explain it to you). This is just our "rubber-hits-the-road" experience....it may or may not fit the academic models you read about..just our experience...there are a lot of academic books and models....checkout WWW.amazon.com and begin your search with PTSD.
Best wishes and lots of success in developing your approach to PTSD treatment!
