I am glad you enjoyed reading the beginning of Joe's talk. It was well received at the Wright Institute as well. I think many people are ready to look at our divinely held beliefs and consider their validity, even as you rightly point out when it hurts. And it does! when I spend hours on an experiment only to find out it was a failure I would love to find a way to make it right. We will never learn if we do that and our science will never go forward. One of the newer research projects on insight in therapy came about because we could not explain a finding using our original way of thinking, We had expected to see a straight line in the acquisition of insight along hours of a treatment but instead found that the data fit a parabolic curve? Several years later a new line of research was developed and a theory arose to help explain the data that was in fact compelling and replicate in many cases. We thought our finding was an error and tried to trace our mistake, but it had to be explained and our theory advanced! You could read about this research if you like. I will continue to post tidbits from group members but I encourage all who are reading the forum to join in. What do you think about this theory? Does it help you understand your patient's actions?
