    Bill, you make a good point. I think that the degree of depression would determine "survival potential". Depression can be totally debilitating (true clinical depression), not just "being depressed". Therefore, energy levels, cognitive functions, mobility etc., sense and motor functions etc., would be lowered, therefore, probably not enhancing survival.
