Can you supply reference material?

My experience and intuition brought me long ago to recognize the "...state-sponsored religion (which largely jettisoned many of the original beliefs of the Jesus followers)..." that you mentioned in your post. But I've suffered a lack of data; can you refer me to any material that supports our shared belief?

Never wishing to allow the fire to go out due to a lack of stirring, I have to mention that I think that you've gotten a little carried away with "...that the human search for meaning is primarily a mechanism to reinforce the cultural order...". Just like the relationship between scientists and engineers, I believe that many search for true meaning with an open mind...others are always there to brandish whatever facts or opinions that result as weapons for their own advancement.
