I wonder where that 80% statistic comes from?.... curious...
It's certainly true that some body language and voice cues are missing in cyberspace interactions. But I think concluding that this makes it a less social environment will lead us to other conclusions that we don't want to make. Such as, do deaf and/or blind people related to others in a less "social" way?
Also, there are some advantages to cyberspace relating. Distance and time are not obstacles to meeting others. We can present our identities in imaginative, creative ways. Couldn't we argue that this makes it a more powerful social environment?
