    Perhaps subjectivity is the key

    It's tough. Perhaps approaching these problems from a very matter-of-fact viewpoint, as a philosophically minded scientist, and basing the material in your own experience will help keep you on target. I am thinking of a sort of "case study" approach, showing how you, or other scientists, have addressed (or failed to address) these issues.

    Since you sound dubious about trying for objectivity anyway, might as well make a virtue of objectivity. Anyway... just some thoughts.
