That is how I read Scott's reply. It makes sense to me too...extending the client's world view / definition of potential solutions to the problem by joining with the client and working from within. It's a challenging and sometimes creative way to work.
One question - how does the therapist manage to shift the client's frame to accept the expanded ways of thinking about possible solutions? For instance, in Scott's example, how did the therapist manage to have the woman accept stress as something that might have a biological impact on depression just as she believed that medication would, and in doing so allow the woman to become less insistent that medication would be "the" cure?
