A number of sudies outline the increase in IQ of which you speak. Unfortunately I have no adequate references at my disposal. However, Neisser et al (1996) in the American Psychologist present a comprehensive review of current ideas concerning IQ, and if my memory serves me right provides a section on the phenomena of increasing IQ. Many researchers regard the rising scores as an environmental issue, with children gaining not only increased practice at formalised tests (a variable which can be accounted for statistically) but also increased exposure to the types of cognitive tasks required by IQ tests - a consequence of the different media with which today's child is typically confronted.
