Hi, Michael. Nice to see you (read you) participating in the forum. The interesting thing about masks (as in avatars) is that they hide and reveal simultaneously. Sort of like the compromise formation of dreams.... As to cause and effect, well, the more I think about these concepts, the less I truly understand them.
