You are more than just a little correct. I appreciate how eloquently you summarized so much. One angle you perhaps forgot (since you didn't mention it in your explanation) is that Dr. Erickson went to a lot of effort to demonstrate that hypnosis was a common-everyday phenomenon that perhaps everyone experiences often. Among his goals in the later years, when I knew him, was to promote the use of this common-everyday experience in therapy that employed hypnosis. So, as you pointed out, Erickson and his students de-mythologize hypnosis and remove its esoteric baggage, possibly to an extreme. Apparently there are some who have not realized this aspect of Erickson's work - maybe due to not researching his writings directly for themselves. But, thanks for helping clarify such matters.
