I'm happy you have been able to identify the source of your problem. The amount of time since the event(s) occurred is not a concern. In fact the oldest client to be treated with EMDR for PTSD stemming from childhood abuse is in the mid-nineties. It is important to remember, however, that there will be the need to process the memories that set the groundwork for the disturbance, the present situations that trigger the disturbance, and templates for appropriate future action.
A list of clinicians who have completed the EMDR Institute basic training are accessible through http://www.emdr.com or directly from inst@emdr.com. Make sure to interview your clinician to identify their experience in handling your problem--and their comfort level with EMDR. Remember, each clinicians is different. There are also a number of books now available to give you an overview of appropriate EMDR treatment.
