    Why spontaneous remission?

    I'm sorry I didn't read this before I posted the bit above about the poor old rabbit caught in the frieze (sic) ...

    But nobody's been able to explain to me why, if depression is supposed to be caused and maintained by negative automatic thoughts &c, spontaneous remission occurs at a very high rate, that is to say, in the absence of any prior shift in the cognitive style ... In other words, are the cognitive changes in depression secondary to emotional changes resulting from subcortical (limbic) dysfunction?

    I should stress that I do like CBT ...
