One of the tenets of the accelerated information processing model is the ability to achieve positive treatment effects more rapidly than otherwise predicted. For instance, exposure therapies are predicated on the need to use 15-50 hours of exposure for habituation/extinction to take place. This model has been validated with all the studies of behavior exposure techniques (e.g., Foa et al., 1991; Keane et al., 1989; Lovell, Richards & Marks, 1994). On the other hand, independent controlled research on EMDR has indicated that the equivalent of three ninety minute sessions are sufficient to eliminate 84-100% of PTSD diagnoses (Marcus et al, 1998; Rothbaum, 1997; Scheck, Scheaffer and Gillete, 1998; Wilson, Becker & Tinker, 1995, 1997). This appears to validate at least one tenet of the model. For full references see http://www.emdr.com
