I don't think abandonment is not so much an issue with EMDR as it is for the current trend in any therapy right now. I too have been told that abandonment is an issue I have to deal with and like yourself I don't understand it, it isn't an issue for me although my therapist says it is. I believe that it is the client who should decide what is an issue and what isn't, however, some therapist seem to get stuck on their own interpretations to the detriment of the client. For myself, I have decided to end therapy as I'm tired of fighting what I believe is a misdiagnosis. Of course, my fighting is now resistance of some sort and is probably going to be used by the therapist as proof of my issue with abandonment. I feel that therapist need to listen to the client and not decide something is an issue. It is the client who knows themselves and that self-knowledge needs to be respected.
