Resource installation works well for many people to strengthen positive internal states, as well as the access to them. For many people, this is accomplished without "kicking up dust" and pulling forward traumatic material or blocking material. For some, however, the act of installing positive resources also kicks up dust, that is, thoughts or feelings that interfere with accessing the positive. In some cases, this "dust" is traumatic material that must be addressed, and in some cases it is more like a blocking belief, or a negative expectancy, that interferes with experiencing the positive resource as truly available. Once identified and negotiated, the blocking belief or material can be resolved, and the positive resource strengthened. Sometimes this must be repeated several times, as each time a new blocking belief appears. It's a perfectly good approach, except for the headache. I always use an ego state approach, that is, I talk to the headache, ask its concerns, and welcome it as an important part of the self.
