Since we don't provide individual case consultations here but rather general comments, the following may or may not apply to your daughter's situation. Some people can jump in with both feet and do EMDR early on in their therapy. These are typically people without a prior trauma history and with good ego strength (internal coping resources). Other people need a lot of rapport building, ego strengthening, and grounding/containment before ever doing EMDR. These are typically people with complex trauma histories, usually beginning in childhood, and with a certain emotional fragility that signifies insufficient ego strength for diving in straight away. A good EMDR therapist determines all this in setting the pace. For more information, you may wish to review this forum and its archives. Best wishes, Sandra Paulsen Inobe, PhD
