I am currently undergoing EMDR treatment at the Austin VA Outpatient Clinic in Austin, Texas. I am a 50% Service-Connected Disabled Veteran, a National Registery Paramedic and also an Ordained Minister with a MDiv. degree. I am sure many of you are aware that "Mental Health Professionals" are unfortunately often viewed in a negative manner by many "religious" leaders. Well, I am here to say that you can love God with all your heart AND still have "issues" to deal with!!! I have been on various mental health medications since 1992, but regardless of how much medication is prescribed (and believe me, the Department of Veterans Affairs Physicians do not hesitate a moment to 'prescribe'!!) the 'problems' still remain. When I first went to the Austin VA Outpatient Clinic I was assigned to Dr. Bob O'Brien, PhD. After a few sessions, he introduced me to the "EMDR" form of treatment, and I immediately purchased the book (Hastings has it in stock in most of their stores!) and after reading about the various aspects, decided to "give it a try". I am so glad I did. I have weekly sessions and things that have been 'bottled up' for 30+ years are now being released and dealt with appropriately. I can not say enough good about this form of therapy. For anyone that is undecided about EMDR being a viable form of treatment, even for PTSD cases, let me assure you that IT WORKS!! I am interested in hearing from any other "care givers" who may also be EMDR recipients at this time! You can either post a response or email me directly at donginter@fireman.net
