I thought I'd point out that there is a great deal more to this speech than neurobiology and EMDR. Shapiro makes definitive statements about what a therapeutic alliance is supposed to "look" like, she talks about the therapist's responsibility on many levels (history taking, informed consent, client self actualization, etc). She also talks very coherently about how trauma is or is not processed -- and those issues are critical to many clients and therapists who will never use EMDR. My point is, this is a wonderful example of a very good clinician talking about the nature and potentialities of therapy. The ideas stand on their own, apart from EMDR. So.. if someone can't understand what they choose to deride as "neurobabble", maybe they should just concentrate on the rest of the speech. It's informative.
