Thanks to ls for the accurate reply. I'll just add this. Customarily EMDR does tend to reassociate emotions with the other channels of memory even though it might not seem like it. For those people who are well defended from experiencing their emotions, it may well be that EMDR will "loop" on that defense, until and unless the protective part of self agrees to the work. The more complex the history of dissociation of emotion, the more complex the treatment including EMDR treatment. EMDR shouldn't be used on highly dissociative clients unless the therapist is experienced in treating dissociative clients
