I posted this message in the loop of another discussion but thought it might get lost in the shuffle. So I'm resposting it here: All the polemics about the efficacy of EMDR have not been helpful to those of us who are searching for answers. I hold out hope that EMDR can help me because ALL other forms of therapy, including medication, have failed me. EMDR is really my last chance. I don't have blind faith in it but want to give it time before I come to any conclusions. There is substantial evidence that traditional talk therapy helps many clients. Anti-depressants have proven to be highly effective for patients, according to many studies. But both have proved inadequate for me. I have tried every anti-depressant and other medications on the market (Celexa, Zoloft, Effexor, Remaron, Prozac, Lexapro, Wellbutrin, Paxil, Lithium, Seroquel, cocktails of many drugs...). None provided any relief. Talk therapy caused more harm than good. Please stop the bickering over EMDR and instead offer construction advise to those who are struggling to find help. I harbor healthy skepticism about EMDR. But I also need hope. Those who post blanket condemnation of EMDR destroy any glimmer of hope. Thanks.
