There is no research on these points so the following is based on my clinical experience and that of other practitioners of EMDR. Its ideal to keep the speed of eye movements as fast as the person can go. It seems to disengage the heavy-handed effect of cognition to a degree, and enables the processing to occur on a bodily level with as much interference of defenses.
