No, that would not be typical. I'll make some general comments that may or may not apply to you. As you know, we can't do case consultation here because we don't have sufficient information. We can make general comments only. If a therapist doesn't screen for a dissociative disorder, or proceeds to do EMDR on someone with a dissociative disorder, the EMDR may "lance" dissociative barriers and enable processing "behind the scenes" or behind a wall of amnesia. Later, the front part of the self may not recall what work went on behind the dissociative barrier. If this happens, which is not the recommended procedure, for most people it will turn out all right, and for some it will precipitate emotional flooding and destabilization. There are other steps needed prior to doing EMDR for dissociative clients. I don't have any information whether the above explanation would apply in your case, have no information about whether or not you are dissociative, and there may be other possible explanations that aren't occurring to me. You might bring this in to your therapist and talk about it.
