I often find it helpful, if having some kind of upset/fallout after EMDR, to intentionally focus on positive affirmations - giving myself positive messages to counter whatever emotions are spiralling. I think it's sort of like cognitive-interweaving myself. It feels like it just helps to move things along, and helps things to settle and feel better rapidly. Having said that, i have had many EMDR sessions as a client, and only had really severe fallout one time - and it only lasted one day (but it was a brutal day!). A few other times, I have had intermittent feelings of upset (in much the same way that clients can with talk therapy). Most times I just feel elated afterwards :-)
