I would think that all EMDR therapists would screen for DID before doing EMDR because that's been the harangue I've been on very publically for over a decade and because the EMDR training was changed to emphasize that step in 1992. I think the reason people don't is that they don't really believe it, dissociation gets dissociated, just like trauma. Jack Watkins, who is the father of ego state therapy, describes it on a continuum, dissociation I mean. So people really should be thinking in terms of where on the continuum of dissociation does this person fall? and that person? and the next? each and every person should be assessed for degree of dissociation, from normal roles and state dependent learning to DID. That's my endless mantra.
