I'd recommend that anyone seeking help who is DID, and thinks they have found the 'right' therapist, verify the training. For instance, my old therapist, who is something of a self styled expert in my backwater town :), assured me she knew how to treat DID. Come to find out, that prior to when she started seeing me, she had had very few DID patients. I can only guess she was intrigued by my description of my case. "I" would have been more "intrigued" by healing through competent care. I wish I had asked if she had specific training in DID. I wish I had asked if she got regular supervision. (As it turns out, she doesn't get supervision, period.) Just a heads up... don't just ask if they know what they are doing... saying "yes" is easy and spouting off a bit of ego state speak is also easy... but neither will be of great benefit in the long haul. So Level II EMDR is a given.... and so should be supervision, specific training and also supervision in DD. My two cents... with inflation what it is, probably not worth much... :)
