I'm uncertain whether your are still reading this forum. However, bad/harmful therapy is my bete noire, for now after 20 years I still live with the iatrogenic effects of it, additional trauma that I must live with for the remainder of my life. Therefore, I understand the pain you face. There are far more bad therapies, and therapists, out there in my opinion than good ones. However, there are people who can help. Although I am not a fan if EMDR, you may have run into one of the countless therapists who are destructive despite the type of therapy that he or she practices. You can blame it on EMDR. The therapist is who hurt you. You don't deserver to suffer. There are people out there that can help you to improve your life. However, you must do a careful search in the same way you would seek a fine medical doctor. Find out who is on the cutting edge of trauma treatment. Discover the univerisities doing the best research. Read scholarly articles. Get your hands on academic databases containing articles on trauma. Then find a few therapists, perhaps through reccomendations, who have studied with these people doing the research and who are considered fine therapists. Again, there are people who can help you alleviate your suffering, but you must be very very careful. Psychotherapy is a fine tool when it is used well, but few people master the healing art. Keep it in mind that there is much more to therapy than a particular technique.
