You might try contacting Carol York, a therapist in Austin, Tx. I know she has worked with deaf clients and I believe has used EMDR as part of the theraputic plan. She could be a good resource for you. As to adequate communication between therapist and hearing impaired client, while it is true that having a therapist who is fluent in sign language (if that is the client's mode of communication)and who is well versed in deaf culture is the most preferable, another option would be to use a sign language interpreter. Psychotherapy sessions can be quite successful when an experienced, well trained, certified interpreter is used for communication between client and therapist. However, just as there must be trust between therapist and client, there must also be that same kind of trust between client and interpreter and therapist and interpreter.
