In my experience with a small clinical sample (three cases of pseudoseizures) using the EMDR/dissociation protocol was helpful. The procedure had to be modified in each of the three cases to accommodate the very early age of the client at the time of the apparent trauma. That is, when trauma occurs at a preverbal age, the EMDR processing gets complicated. This is because it is necessary to get the relevant parts of self to "look through the eyes" during the appropriate piece of the processing. I believe it was Peter Barach, PhD, who has also made the point that not all cases of pseudoseizures are dissociative in nature. So, the diagnosis of pseudo-seizures does not necessarily mean that we can infer early trauma. Sandra Paulsen Inobe, PhD
