These are fair questions -- apply them also to the originators of cbt/exposure studies as well, would you please? The APA team and ISTSS team members names are all available in their publications. By all means, go do your homework. Some people would rather that efficacious treatment methods would be kept cloistered in the dark halls of rat running university programs, rather than being available to and by the 10,000s disseminating efficacious treatments to the world. And do you think those training workshops go for free? You figure out the numbers. Most workshops cost $125 to $160 per day of a workshop. The EMDR training is 2.5 days, and for every nine participants there is, in addition to the instructor, a facilitator (trained), often flown in for the occasion, to make sure participants actually get hands-on, one on one practicum supervision and feedback. That's to make sure the protocol is actually taught. And Dr. Shapiro gets a psychologist's salary from the EMDR Institute. Some of the proceeds go to the Humanitarian Assistance Program, which provides training and treatment in disaster/war areas around the world. So before casting aspersions on the individuals involved, it would be wise to get the facts straight. You may wish to read Dr. Shapiro's book, now in its second edition.
