Well, I agree with you completely, that this is the point of such protocols as RDI, DNMS (Schmidt refers to my article in her articles by the way, when my name was Paulsen). Those RDI and DNMS protocols however were not designed for the highly dissociative DID client. The work is dicier with DID folks, and slower. Very little has been published on it. In the last two yeras, Joanne Twombly has published on an RDI approach with DID's and Berkowitz and Fine have published on interweaving hypnosis with EMDR for DID. A special volume of the hypnosis journal covered EMDR at length in combination with hypnotic procedures. I did a much earlier article on EMDR and DID which included some ego strengthening as well, and my two day workshop on EMDR across the dissociative continuum has big sections on ego strengthening, skills building, and other preparatory steps prior to desensitization of trauma. One rarely sees posts by formerly DID folks quickly treated with EMDR without flooding, however. Additionally, this particular post struck me because it was concisely descriptive of a brief and effective and safe integrative treatment. It would be valuable, absolutely, to know more about the prior treatment history. With a little luck, we will hear more about it.
