Sandra, I posted a little down in the board about my experiences with bilateral stimulation and I have just read this post of yours re what the teminologly means etc. It is confusing, does everyone hold the same concept in mind with each word etc. Anyway, after reading your post here I realize that you have described what I do "checking out" with the tactile stimulation. It is harder to do that with the eye movements and so I get overwhelmed, or I have in the past. I just realized, I dissociate, "check out", allow another "part" of me to come into play (the kid in me that just loves the tactile rhythm} With the eye movements that was much more noticeable and I struggled. It was not as noticeable, for me, with other forms of stimulation. As I noted in my other posts, a few posts down at present, is it the passiveness of the form of bilateral stimulation? Or is the eye movement, because it requires more of the client, more a distraction --- in that I guess I mean dual attention. I am thinking that within this is an important answer to the effectiveness of EMDR and I cannot say anymore than that.It comes from my experience of it. I just find it quite interesting that I have reached a point of thinking, I need the eye movements again, they will do more for me, I am ready for them. Maybe the eye movements demand something more of the client that other forms of bilateral stimualation do not. Wow, this really had my curiosity tweaked!!!
