EMDR is different than hypnosis. Usually with EMDR one targets an issue and eventually emotions become accessible if they aren't available initially. For some people this might take a little time. In general, I have found that talking to "the wall", appreciating it, understanding its concerns and finding it a better "job", or better way of being helpful and protective, can help move things during EMDR. This is a special application of ego state therapy. It may or may not apply in your case, so talk to your therapist about it.
