Thank you for your thoughtful discourse here. And I must say my usual tiresome caution, namely, that we're not commenting on individual cases here, so these comments are disappointingly not personal to you, but rather are general comments. I agree completely that trauma and/or suffering alters our experience on earth, that EMDR or other releasing doesn't make it not have happened, but rather causes one to accept the reality of their life in a more neutral way. Rather, my purpose in referring to the light is not only to say that we see this in the way a sliver works its way out, and once the blockages are removed, there is a natural movement toward healing and growth, but more.... I think once we cross over from this life, the suffering of this life will look and feel entirely different, more as learning opportunities in ways I can hardly fathom, (and don't mean to in any way say victims needed to be taught a lesson, either!). At that point, peace and love will be complete. Although EMDR is a technique, and psychology is about symptoms and methods and small pieces, I am convinced that the glimpse into healing and transcendence that we see in EMDR, the tendency in some people toward spiritual awakening as suffering is released (through EMDR or certain other methods), is not a coincidence. EMDR is one of the healing traditions that is an honor to practice, a gift to receive and a taste of the sublime for all who care to sample it and are open to its possibilities.
