Sometimes an EMDR therapist can use a cognitive interweave inviting the client's higher self to offer a perspective. Alternatively the therapist can describe a forked path, with one path leading down the road of fear and mistrust, the other leading to the path of trust and faith. The therapist asks the client to explore each path with bilateral stimulation. Naturally, the client will prefer the road of trust and faith. This can sometimes uplevel the work to a highly spiritual level, which the client experiences viscerally as profoundly meaningful and impactful.
